What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Coupling two antennas or aerials

Antenna Combiners or Couplers

You need a "Y" connector or a RF connection box or a Combiner also known as a Coupler, lots of options - all you need to do is search.

Some of them provide connections at the mast, others at the TV (see picture below)

You simply connect the two antenna cables to one side and one cable that goes to the TV on the other side

There is of course higher quality ones as well. This one connects at mast area, but is more expensive.

If you choose this one, you will need to get access to the mast and this is dangerous. Get a qualified antenna installer to carry out this work

Advantages
Obviously you get increased signal strength that might improve your reception.

Disadvantages
You could have too much "gain" or power going to your TV, which can cause ghosting and other problems, in fact it could make your situation worse

Splitting one antennaor aerial to more than one TV

Antenna Splitters or Dividers

This can be done in the loft where the antenna cable enters the house and mounted on the timbers.

The one cable from the antenna enters the splitter and form there you connect to two or more TVs (depending on the splitter you choose)

3-way Splitter

This is a cheaper version of the one above, so if you live in a strong signal area you may be able to get away with this one.

Whichever type you choose you should be able to run more than one television off the one antenna.

If you are in doubt you can always get good advice at a local antenna installer place of business. He or she will have local knowledge as to what works and what doesn't.

Advantages
Obviously you run more than one television from the same antenna, hence reducing your overall costs.

Disadvantages
You get a signal loss which is multiplied by how many TVs you are running from the same antenna. If you live in a poor signal area, it might not work, or you will notice a small degradation in the picture quality. In strong signal areas, it will be hardly noticeable, depending of course on how many TVs are sharing the same antenna

Note: If you are watching HD channels, then you will need to take into account that HD requires more bandwidth than standard Digital TV. There is likely to be a noticeable difference in picture quality.
